Doctor Who Baby Shower
Hee. How can one resist? This is a 4.4x6.2 inch shower invitation with some whovian influence.
This card is made of white card stock; The gray starry background is part of the printed design. The circles at the top supposedly means "Baby!" in timelord language, but I can't vouch for that 100%, not being able to read the language myself.

Pac people III
There are already two designs on the website with a design idea that would remind you of an old computer game. These are wedding save the dates with a Pac Man and Pac Woman on them.
The first design was fairly simple at 4x3.5 inches:
The second design was a little more complicated at 5.35x4.1 inches:
In this version, Pac Woman has a veil! Too much geeky wedding fun.
The third save the date design is in between the two sizes, at 5x3.5 inches.
The new wording tweak for this version is "Start 2-Player Game".
Check out pricing for 5x3.5 inch magnets here:
http://www.savethedateoriginals.com/35x5_Magnet.php
One of the things that I liked about this project was that the customer went with rounded corners. Currently, all magnet sizes are listed with square corners, but rounded corners are still available as an add-on.

For the Bibliophiles
While updating the photograph for "STDC14", a save the date card that is meant to look somewhat like a book cover, a new invitation design idea came to mind.
First check out STDC14, where one is asked to "Book the Date" rather than "Save the Date".
If Save the Date Originals has a save the date for those writers, literary lovers, editors, and book lovers, then surely STDO should have a wedding invitation for them as well.
Introducing a 4.5x6.25 inch folded card design. The front is somewhat like a book cover, while the main invitation wording and information is printed on both panels of the inside, complete with page numbers. You can't see it in the photo, but there is even a cute little book graphic with two hearts on the back of the invitation card.
Lastly, one must not forget the response card. For this design, it seemed fitting to make a design that mimics one of those Library cards that keeps a list of the book's borrowers.
This invitation design isn't yet posted in the main website's invitation section, but will make it there soon.

QR Code on a Save the Date Card
QR codes: Little blocky black and white graphics that you may have seen there and there. Your phone (if it has a camera) can scan and interpret a QR code. Commonly, the QR code will take you to a website. This can be used for a lot of things; Imagine a movie advertisement with a QR code that takes you to a website with a trailer for that movie.
In the same way that website addresses have become a common addition to save the dates and even sometimes invitations, QR codes are just starting to get added in more often to personalized stationery. A good example is that I've had a customer ask me to print a QR code on the back of her holiday card. The QR code took receivers to a blog post that talked about the family happenings for the year.
This time, a customer asked me to put the QR code within their save the dates design. And it wasn't a modern style save the date design, where you could expect to get away with quirky blocky elements.
This one, to be exact:

It's a popular 5x3.5 inch save the date card from my save the date card gallery.
It took me a minute to conceive an idea for this. It turns out that you can change the colors of the QR code graphic without messing up the functionality. So I switched the QR code to cream and brown, then added in into a 4x5.25 inch version of the design:

Their QR code takes guests to their wedding website.
I have to admit, this turned out better than I would have expected for a nice wedding save the date design that has a QR code as actually part of the design. Thus, I declare this my favorite project of the month for January 2012.
*To protect the couple's privacy, the names, website, and QR code on the photographed example have been altered*

Happy Slingshot Birds Save the Date Card
How is this for offbeat? A save the date card with two happy birds flying towards... their wedding cake.
PS: This can be made as a fridge magnet.
No angry birds here! Just some good humor for those engaged couples who love the game "Angry Birds". Have fun with your wedding :-)

facebook save the date card
I do enjoy a quirky project; This card definitely falls into the offbeat category.

It's a 6.25x4.25 inch card that is designed to look a bit like a facebook page. There is room for multiple photographs, the wedding date, the couple's name, location. At the top, there is even room for a website url!
If you met on facebook, you are both facebook addicts, or you just think this is hilarious, check out the design's detail page on Save the Date Originals for more info.

World of Warcraft (WOW) Themed Save the Date
At long last, a customer emailed to ask where the promised World of Warcraft themed save the date design was. These players will be married next October 2011, and wanted a fun save the date magnet.

The couple went with the small 3.5x2 inch size, which meant keeping the design fairly simple. Their idea was to try to make the design look like one of the Achievements you can get in game after completing certain tasks. In this case, the achievement is "Shackled".
Too fun!
But this design looks like it is for members of the Horde! What about the Alliance?
Check out this version of the warcraft save the date theme, for a larger 5x3.5 inch card:
Pricing available here: http://www.savethedateoriginals.com/details/STDC10A.php
This is just one idea; No doubt WOW players have other good ones. Feel free to have me (Angela) work on something else for you.

Save the Date: Gamers.
Sometimes, when one geek meets another geek...
There is one small save the date magnet design on the STDO website that pays homage to the gamer spirit:
This small magnet design features gaming dice. A fun change of wording that one couple went with was: "We failed our love save".
And then there is this wedding save the date, designed to look somewhat like a "Magic: the gathering" card. It is a fun 2.5x4 inch magnet design that incorporates a photograph of the couple along with the geekitude.
Also, here is a larger 3.5x5 Super save the date magnet idea:
Send in your suggestions for geeky, nerdy, or fun save the dates!
A WOW (world of warcraft) design may show up in the future. For the alliance!
See more geeky save the dates in the OffBeat section at Save the Date Originals.
